Established in 1990, the Long Range Rifles Branch of the Muzzle Loaders Association of Great Britain (MLAGB) held its first competitions at Bisley that year; a 600 yard match for Whitworth rifles and a 1,000 yard Championship for any muzzle loading rifle. Since then a comprehensive programme has been established for muzzle loading military, military match and full match rifles.
Unlike regional Branches of the MLAGB, Long Range Rifles draws its membership from throughout the UK. As such social meetings are generally only held when shooting dates are booked and this also provides opportunity for occasional informal lectures. The Branch Annual General Meeting is usually held in August and the Annual Dinner and Prize Giving in October.
Branch competitions are held at the National Shooting Centre, Bisley Camp, Surrey. Members also take part in other local and regional events and MLAGB competitions at the Association’s range complex at Wedgnock, Warwick.
Long Range Rifles Branch members have competed with success in international teams and were instrumental in running the Muzzle Loaders Associations International Committee (MLAIC) Long Range World Championships when hosted by the MLAGB at Bisley in 1999, 2000, 2005 and 2011.
Membership enquiries are welcomed, but please note that all members of the Long Range Rifles Branch must be full or family members of the Muzzle Loaders Association of Great Britain.
